CMA CGM Foundation

Established in 2005 and chaired by Tanya Saadé Zeenny, the CMA CGM Foundation is driven by a sense of responsibility, a spirit of solidarity, and a passion for entrepreneurship. It focuses on two key missions: humanitarian aid and education for all. Facing crises, the Foundation leverages the expertise in transport and logistics solutions of the CMA CGM Group to deliver essential humanitarian supplies. It also supports access to education for all, training, and professional integration. To date, the Foundation has transported 38,000 tons of humanitarian aid to 82 countries and has supported over 450 educational projects in France, Lebanon, and around the world.

Our partners

Since its inception in 2005, the CMA CGM Foundation has supported over 350 social and humanitarian projects and 250 partners with a view to making a difference over the long term.To achieve this, it has forged an array of partnerships with third sector organizations, from the top internationally renowned NGOs to local non-profits.

The crisis and support center of the French ministry for Europe and for foreign affairs

The center protects French citizens in the event of a crisis abroad, coordinates the French government’s emergency aid during humanitarian crises and helps to support stabilization efforts after the initial crisis.The CMA CGM Foundation decided to join forces with the center to support the French government’s response to humanitarian crises around the world.This partnership expands and builds on the support the CMA CGM Foundation provides to leading NGOs via the Containers of Hope humanitarian transport operation.

Humanitarian projects recognized around the world

UNICEF

Founded in 1946, UNICEF is the United Nations agency responsible for improving children’s lives and advocating for the protection of their rights. UNICEF promotes the rights and well-being of every child through all its actions, and it works in 190 countries and territories around the world alongside its partners to make this pledge a reality, ensuring it reaches the most vulnerable and marginalized children, in the best interests of all children, wherever they are.

In spring 2020, the CMA CGM Foundation and UNICEF France joined forces for the first time to support the continued education of children living in highly vulnerable situations in Marseille amid the Covid-19 pandemic crisis.

In December 2020, they sealed an ambitious logistics and people-oriented partnership under which UNICEF joined the Containers of Hope operation and 200 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) containers are shipped free of charge every year. The CMA CGM Group’s staff members will also share their knowledge about cold chain compliance for the transport of pharmaceutical products with UNICEF under the skills-based volunteering program.

The ICRC

The ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization based in Geneva that provides humanitarian assistance specifically to victims of conflict, for example in Yemen, Syria and Somalia.

The ICRC has been a partner of Containers of Hope since 2022, and the partnership has resulted in 500 containers of humanitarian aid being transported around the world. The addition of the ICRC means that the CMA CGM Foundation’s scope of action is expanding into new regions, and it is shipping essential products to the most difficult-to-access areas affected by conflicts and violence, primarily in Africa and the Middle East.

Médecins sans Frontières

Médecins sans Frontières, a longstanding NGO partner of the Containers of Hope operation since 2012, provides medical assistance to populations whose livelihood or health is under threat, both in France and around the world, as a result of armed conflict, pandemics, natural disasters or other situations barring them from accessing healthcare..

Action Against Hunger

The mission statement of Action Contre la Faim, another longstanding partner of the Containers of Hope operation since it was launched in 2012, is to save lives through the elimination of hunger by preventing, detecting and treating malnutrition. It is generally called into action during and after emergency situations caused by conflicts and natural disasters.

French Red Cross

The French Red Cross has been a partner of the Containers of Hope operation since 2015. The French Red Cross is a French humanitarian aid NGO. Its core mission is to provide emergency relief, first aid, social action, training, health and international action.

OM Fondation

OM Fondation’s mission is to support and conduct initiatives in the general interest, by harnessing the reputation of the Olympique de Marseille soccer team and its players and/or to support social, humanitarian, charitable or cultural projects aligned with its four top priorities of education, entrepreneurship & workplace integration, sports activities for young people and culture.

The CMA CGM Foundation teamed up with OM Fondation to launch the #MouvTaVie project supporting young people in Marseille not in employment or training along the path to success.

 

L’Ecole des XV

Founded by the Voyage Privé group, the Ecole des XV aims to combat educational failure among junior high school students by offering them an extra-curricular program of school support and rugby training sessions. L’Ecole des XV was awarded the CMA CGM Foundation’s 2018 Prize and is also a partner of the skills-based volunteering program.

The Fondation Abbé Pierre

The Fondation Abbé Pierre aims to provide access to suitable housing for all underprivileged individuals so they can live with dignity. Its mission is to provide accommodation and guidance to those in need, with no strings attached. Following the rue d’Aubagne building collapse in Marseille during 2018, the Foundation decided to support its housing relief operations over the long term by establishing a three-year partnership.

L’Institut Télémaque

L’Institut Télémaque aims to foster equal opportunities in education by supporting young people from underprivileged backgrounds. It offers talented students combined “business and school” mentoring. Every young person in the program is supported by a business tutor and a mentor at their school. The Foundation backed the Institut Télémaque in 2018 by providing grants for several junior-high school students.

Arts & Développement

The non-profit organization puts art at the heart of social, cultural and educational initiatives in priority districts to further children’s development and build stronger communities. In 2019, the CMA CGM Foundation decided to fund the development of a second artistic activity unit within the street workshops and the creation of a dedicated space for hosting parents.

Arcenciel

Founded jointly by Pierre Issa in 1985 during the civil war, the organization’s original aim was to support the growing number of people living with a disability. Today, Arcenciel champions the social and economic integration of marginalized communities and individuals. As part of its support and guidance programs for young people, the organization established six specialized classes for children with disabilities and an integrated daycare center promoting social mixing from the youngest age onwards. Arcenciel via its Rainbow Club network also offers an extensive range of activities in three key areas crucial for young people’s lives—sports and leisure, art and culture, and education. Arcenciel was the recipient of the CMA CGM Foundation’s 2018 Prize and was one of the main partners for the “A Ship for Lebanon” humanitarian operation.

OffreJoie 

OffreJoie  is a non-denominational and apolitical organization founded in 1985 by Melhem Khalaf. The goal was to bring together Christian and Muslim communities divided by the Lebanese civil war and to give young people greater responsibility, while fostering community spirit and a sense of unity between them.

These young volunteers carry a message of hope, advocating for a unified, plural, free and fair Lebanon. Working with them, Offrejoie provides assistance to the most in need, rehabilitating housing, underprivileged districts, public schools and prisons.

Following the double blast at the Port of Beirut (August 4, 2020), the organization was very active on the front line, rapidly clearing stricken districts and streets, and rebuilding countless houses and stores that were destroyed.

Beit el Baraka 

Beit el Baraka is a non-governmental organization founded in 2018 by Maya Ibrahimchah supporting isolated pensioners and those in financial distress.

The economic crisis that has hit Lebanon since 2019 led to the expansion of the organization’s support program, which now covers families experiencing serious distress.

Following the double blast at the Port of Beirut (August 4, 2020), Beit el Baraka focused its activities on rehabilitating devastated housing and damaged SME facilities.

SESOBEL

SESOBEL, founded in 1976, provides relief to children and young people living with a physical or mental disability or pervasive developmental disorders, as well as offering support and guidance to their families. A multidisciplinary team of professionals, specialized educators and hundreds of volunteers make a difference to the daily lives of these children and young people from across every region of Lebanon, under a medical follow-up, physiotherapy and educational program to develop their capabilities and increase their self-sufficiency.  

The CMA CGM Foundation supported SESOBEL in 2012 with the rehabilitation of the pastry and chocolate workshop set up to train young people with a disability at the work-based assistance center and in 2019 with the acquisitions of educational equipment geared to the needs of young people with motor and intellectual impairments, multiple disabilities and autism.

Tahaddi

Tahaddi reaches out to individuals in vulnerable situations through educational, psycho-social and health initiatives. In 2019, the CMA CGM Foundation supported the acquisition of technical and educational equipment to broaden access to core learning and educational activities for over 250 young Lebanese and Syrian refugees living in the Beirut suburbs.

Association du Foyer de l’Enfant Libanais (AFEL)

The NGO aims to provide schooling and to support the personal development of children and young people from underprivileged backgrounds. As the 2012 winner of the Foundation’s Lebanon Prize, AFEL was also supported by the Foundation in 2019 with a campaign to prevent harassment in ten public and private Lebanese schools.
